Can you please start by introducing yourself and telling us about your journey as a tattoo artist?
My name is Lucas Espeche. I’m originally from Argentina and currently traveling the world. I began my journey tattooing in 2012, starting with a basic kit and practicing on oranges, like many artists in their early days.
Soon after, I gained my first loyal clients who trusted me and allowed me to take my first real steps on skin.
Like most tattoo artists, I initially explored a variety of styles. Over time, however, I developed a more defined artistic identity, focusing on realism and surrealism in both color and black & grey —gradually leaning more toward color work.
Approximately two and a half years into my career, I opened my first studio alongside my now wife Leila Morales. After several relocations and growth phases, I currently run my studio in a central location in Merlo, San Luis, which remains active under the name WEAKO.

You specialize in realism and surrealism — what drew you to this style, and why did you choose it?

Today, my primary focus is high-impact surrealism, although realism has always been a fundamental base in my work. Even before tattooing, I had a strong inclination toward drawing portraits.
Throughout my career, I explored various styles such as New School and comic, among others. However, quite naturally, my path led me toward what I truly enjoy creating—almost without realizing it at the time.
Of course, this evolution required a great deal of dedication, and I remain in a constant pursuit of growth and self-improvement.

Your surrealistic designs are original. What inspires your designs, and how do you approach the design process?
It’s a complex and extensive topic—one I usually dive deeper into during my seminars.
To summarize, after years of refining my style and understanding what truly represents me as an artist, I approach each design by pushing my own technical limits, always adding an extra level of difficulty to what I know I’m capable of tattooing. I also place great importance on listening carefully to each client’s idea and translating it into my artistic language. This process can be challenging, but it’s also a significant source of inspiration. Much of that inspiration is rooted in the dramatic expression of the human figure.

You have taken part in many tattoo conventions. What do these experiences mean to you, and how have they influenced you as an artist?
Yes, I’ve had—and continue to have—the opportunity to participate in various conventions, both as an artist and as a judge. Expanding my presence in international conventions remains one of my goals.
For me, conventions are like schools: spaces where you learn, gain exposure, connect with incredible artists, and open new doors. From sponsorship opportunities to exclusive invitations, they play a key role in professional growth.
I always encourage emerging artists to participate in conventions—it’s an experience that significantly accelerates development.

Was there a moment or turning point in your career that significantly improved your work?
Yes, and it hasn’t been just a single defining moment. In fact, if it were only one, it might keep you in a comfort zone. These creative “clicks” often happen through conventions and shared experiences with artists I consider true references. I believe every artist must find their own turning points; otherwise, there’s a risk of stagnation.

You are sponsored by and collaborate with many tattoo supply companies, which is a great recognition for any artist. How has this influenced you as an artist and shaped your career?
I’ve worked—and continue to work—with several sponsors. Agreements often evolve over time, whether they end, renew, or improve. Having the support of brands that believe in your work is incredibly valuable. It helps build your name and strengthens your position within the industry.
It’s a delicate aspect, but with the right sponsors, it becomes a powerful tool for growth.

Do you have any special or exciting plans in the near future?
One of my main goals for this year is to complete my online seminar, which soon there will be more information on it.
At the same time, I remain focused on continuing to attend conventions, doing guest spots around the world, and building collaborations with leading artists and internationally recognized brands.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of tattooing?
I am a father and a husband, and my family is my top priority. Spending quality time with them is essential.
My wife has been by my side since before my beginnings in tattooing, and her support has been key in allowing me to fully commit to this path. Today, we work as a team—she manages marketing, scheduling, and the overall client experience.
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of Ink Legends Mag.
